Acid
Substance that produces hydrogen ions (H+) in a water solution.
Hydronium Ion
Ion formed when H+ ions interact with water, represented as H3O+.
Indicator
Organic compound that changes color in acid or base.
pH
Measure of the concentration of H+ ions; ranges from 1 (acidic) to 14 (basic).
Neutralization
Chemical reaction between an acid and a base that results in a salt and water.
Salt
A compound formed when negative ions from an acid combine with positive ions from a base.
Titration
Process used to determine the concentration of a solution by using a solution of known concentration.
Strong Acid
An acid that ionizes completely in solution.
Weak Acid
An acid that only partly ionizes in solution.
Strong Base
A base that dissociates completely in solution.
Weak Base
A base that does not ionize completely.
Acidic Solution
A solution with a pH less than 7.
Basic Solution
A solution with a pH greater than 7.
Natural Indicator
Substances like red cabbage that can indicate pH through color changes.
Common Acids
Examples include citric acid (fruits), lactic acid (milk), and hydrochloric acid (stomach).
Common Bases
Examples include sodium hydroxide (cleaning products) and ammonia.
