Africa
Continent located south of Europe, separated from Europe by the Mediterranean Sea, containing the Sahara Desert, Nile River, and Red Sea.
Asia
The largest continent, home to China, India, Japan, the Arabian Peninsula, Himalayas, Gobi Desert, and rivers including the Indus, Ganges, Yellow, and Yangtze.
Europe
Continent located north of the Mediterranean Sea and west of Asia, surrounded by bodies of water like the Black Sea, Baltic Sea, and North Sea.
North America
Continent located north of South America, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Pacific Ocean to the west, and connected to South America by the Isthmus of Panama.
South America
Continent located south of North America, featuring the Andes Mountains along its western edge, the Amazon Basin, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.
Australia/Oceania
Region located southeast of Asia consisting of Australia and numerous Pacific islands, surrounded by the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
Antarctica
The southernmost continent that surrounds the South Pole and is encircled by the Southern Ocean.
Pacific Ocean
The largest ocean, located between Asia/Australia and the Americas, which historically connected East Asia and the Americas in maritime trade.
Atlantic Ocean
Ocean located between Europe/Africa and North/South America that became a major zone of exchange after European exploration.
Indian Ocean
Ocean located between Africa, Asia, and Australia that was extremely important to Afro-Eurasian trade routes.
Arctic Ocean
Ocean located around the North Pole.
Southern Ocean
Ocean that surrounds Antarctica.
Mediterranean Sea
Body of water between southern Europe, North Africa, and Southwest Asia that served as a major center of trade and cultural exchange.
Red Sea
Body of water between northeastern Africa and the Arabian Peninsula that connected the Mediterranean world and Indian Ocean trade networks.
Arabian Sea
Body of water located between the Arabian Peninsula and India that formed a major part of Indian Ocean trade.
Black Sea
Sea located north of Turkey that connected Eastern Europe, Southwest Asia, and surrounding trade networks.
Caspian Sea
An inland body of water located between Europe and Central Asia.
Baltic Sea
Body of water located between Scandinavia and northern mainland Europe.
North Sea
Body of water located between Great Britain and mainland northern Europe.
Caribbean Sea
Sea located east of Central America and north of South America.
South China Sea
Sea located south/east of China and north of Southeast Asia that acted as a major maritime trade region.
Persian Gulf
Body of water located between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran, critical for trade, transportation, and political power in Southwest Asia.
Gulf of Mexico
Body of water located between the southern United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean region.
Gulf of Guinea
Body of water located along the western coast of Africa.
Strait of Gibraltar
Strategic waterway connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea, known as the gateway to the Mediterranean.
Strait of Malacca
Strategic waterway located between the Malay Peninsula and the island of Sumatra, connecting the Indian Ocean to Southeast and East Asian trade routes.
Bosporus Strait
Strategic waterway located in modern-day Turkey connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and the Mediterranean region.
Nile River
River located in Egypt/Northeast Africa that provided reliable water and fertile soil to support Ancient Egypt.
Tigris and Euphrates Rivers
