Potassium Feldspar
KALSI_3O_8 Blocky, cubic like cleavage. NO STRIATIONS. Translucent white to pink. Looks like muscle fibres with raw meat.
Quartz
SiO_2 Harder than gass, cannot be scratched by a knife. Vitreous glass like lustre with poor cleavage. Trigonal crystal growth.
Plagioclase
(Na,Ca)(Si,Al)_4O_8 Blocky, nerly cubic cleavage. Striation on cleaved faces. Translucent white to grey to black.
Calcite
CaCO_3 excellent rhombohedral cleavage. Double refraction. Sft, easily scratched. REACTS W HCl.
Olivine
(Mg,Fe)_2SiO_4 Usually in granular masses. Rough and gritty. Scratches steel. GREEN .
Pyrite
FeS_2 Dense opaque mineral. silver grey to brassy yellow. Metllic lustre. harder than most opaque minerals. Striations often.
Hornblende
Ca_2(Mg,Fe,Al)_5(Al,Si)_8O_22(OH)_2 or hydrated calcium ferromagnesian aluminosilicate 56/124 degree cleavage, dark green or brownish black. Vitreous lustre.
Diopside
CaMgSi_2O_6 Blockier cleavage, close to 90 degrees. Dark green to brownish black. Vitreous.
