copper tubing in HVAC systems
refrigerant and fluid transport for durability, flexibility, resistance to corrosion
incorrect cutting
can leave burring or deform the tubing, improper bending, lead to kinks and restriction that disrupt flow
flare fitting
used in refrigerant systems create seal by compressed flaring end of tubing, against a fitting
swage fitting
expand the tubing end to fit over another tube creating a seam less joint often used in brazed connections
compression fitting
use a ferrcole and nuts compress tubing, against a body form tight seal without need for flaring or swagging
proper torque setting
apply correct torque ensure fitting secure tightened without damaging tubing over compressing the seal
under tightening
may results in leaks
over tightening
damage thread or distort the tubing compromising connection create a flare, form the flare, assemble and tighten, prepare the tubing expand the tubing, join the tubes, assemble fittings, tighten the nuts
soldering
performed at lower temperatures (below 840 F) using softer filler metals like lead free solders or sliver alloys
Brazing
performed higher temperatures (above 840 F) using stronger filler metals like copper phosphorus or sliver brazing alloys
Good solder
no crack between pipes and fittings
Bad solder
cracks shows between pipes and fittings
