WHMIS
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System; a standardized system providing health and safety information on workplace hazardous materials.
MSDS
Material Safety Data Sheet; a document shipped with chemicals detailing product hazard information, safe handling precautionary measures, and emergency procedures.

GHS Labels
Standardized hazard pictograms enclosed in red diamonds used on product labels to classify physical and health hazards.
Qualitative Properties
Physical properties described in words that express qualities of objects or events without numerical measurement.
Quantitative Properties
Physical properties that can be measured or counted and are recorded with a numerical amount, uncertainty range, and unit.
Lustre
The qualitative property describing an object's ability to reflect light.
Hardness
A qualitative physical property measuring a substance's resistance to being scratched, rated on a scale from 1 to 10.
Malleability
The ability of a metal or substance to be hammered or rolled into a flat sheet.
Ductility
The ability of a metal or substance to be stretched into a long, thin wire.
Viscosity
The physical property measuring a liquid's resistance to flowing.
Conductivity
The ability of a substance to transfer or conduct an electric current.
Independent Variable
The variable in an experiment that is deliberately changed or manipulated by the experimenter, plotted on the x-axis.
Dependent Variable
The variable in an experiment that is measured or observed as a reaction to changes in the independent variable, plotted on the y-axis.
Control Variables
The variables that are kept identical and constant throughout an experiment to guarantee a fair test.
Hypothesis
A testable proposed answer to a research question formulated prior to testing, commonly structured as an 'If… then… because…' statement.
Pie Graph
A circular chart used to visually represent relative proportions or parts of a whole.
Bar Graph
A chart using rectangular bars to compare amounts across distinct categories.
Line Graph
A graph tracking data points connected by lines to demonstrate continuous change of one variable relative to another.
Accuracy
The degree to which a measured or observed value matches the true or accepted reference value.
Precision
The closeness of multiple repeated measurements to one another, as well as the detail provided by the number of decimal places.
Systematic Error
An error stemming from consistent bias in observation, technique, or equipment calibration that compromises accuracy and cannot be eliminated by repeating trials.
Random Error
An unbiased variation in measurement resulting from unpredictable changing environmental or procedural conditions, which can be reduced by repeated trials.
Significant Digits
All precision-bearing digits in a measured quantity that are known with certainty, plus one final estimated or uncertain digit.
Scientific Notation
A mathematical method writing numbers as a×10n, where coefficient a satisfies 1≤a<10 and n is an integer exponent.

Metric Prefixes Table
A table of SI unit prefixes denoting powers of ten used to scale metric units larger or smaller than base units.
GRASS Method
A structured 5-step problem-solving framework consisting of Given, Required, Analysis, Solution, and Statement.
Bunsen Burner
A gas-fueled heating device consisting of a gas inlet, burner tube, air control vent, and gas control.
Graduated Cylinder
A narrow, calibrated cylindrical container used for precise volumetric liquid measurement.
Erlenmeyer Flask
A flat-bottomed, triangular-shaped glass container with a narrow neck, used to store, heat, or mix liquids with low risk of spilling.
Wire Gauze
A sheet of woven wire placed over an iron ring to support glass containers and spread heat evenly during heating.
Evaporating Dish
A small porcelain basin used to heat and evaporate liquid solvents away from solid dissolved residues.
Mortar and Pestle
A heavy ceramic bowl and pestle tool pair used to grind solid chemical substances into fine powders.
Spot Plate
A ceramic or plastic plate containing multiple shallow wells used to perform microscale chemical reactions simultaneously.
Beaker Tongs
Tongs featuring rubber coated jaws designed specifically to hold and carry hot beakers.
Crucible Tongs
Metal tongs designed specifically for safely picking up and handling hot crucibles and small high-temperature apparatus.
