Takes or verbalized proper PPE precautions
“BSI, my scene is safe.”
Introduces thyself & applies direct pressure to the wound.
“Hello! I’m [BLANK] and I’m going to be helping you today. That seems to be quite the gnarly wound, I’m going to apply direct pressure and see if it helps.” (all of this + ask them to hold pressure IF they’re conscious)
Applies tourniquet
“I’m now going to apply this tourniquet on you two inches above your wound—let me know if it’s too tight, okay?”
Properly positions the patient
“I’m going to set you down face up on the floor now.” (ask if they can stand if they’re conscious)
Administers high concentration oxygen
“Alright, I’m going to give you 10 LPM of high concentration oxygen through a non-rebreather mask.”
Initiates steps to prevent heat loss from the patient
“I’m going to give you a blanket now to prevent you from losing any more of your body heat.”
Indicates the need for immediate transport
“Alright, this patient needs to be transported to the hospital now!”
