Supine Position
Lying down in bed.
Step 1 (Applies One Knee-High Elastic Stocking)
Explains procedure, speaking clearly, slowly, and directly, maintaining face-to-face contact whenever possible.
Step 2 (Applies One Knee-High Elastic Stocking)
Provides privacy with a curtain, screen, or door.
Step 3 (Applies One Knee-High Elastic Stocking)
Client is in supine position (lying down in bed) while stocking is applied.
Step 4 (Applies One Knee-High Elastic Stocking)
Turns stocking inside-out, at least to the heel.
Step 5 (Applies One Knee-High Elastic Stocking)
Places foot of stocking over toes, foot, and heel.
Step 6 (Applies One Knee-High Elastic Stocking)
Pulls top of stocking over foot, heel, and leg.
Step 7 (Applies One Knee-High Elastic Stocking)
Moves foot and leg gently and naturally, avoiding force and over-extension of limb and joints.
Step 8 (Applies One Knee-High Elastic Stocking)
Finishes procedure with no twists or wrinkles and heel of stocking, if present, is over heel and opening in toe area (if present) is either over or under toe area; if using a mannequin, candidate may state stocking needs to be wrinkle-free.
Step 9 (Applies One Knee-High Elastic Stocking)
Signaling device is within reach and bed is in low position.
Step 10 (Applies One Knee-High Elastic Stocking)
After completing skill, washes hands.
