Africana Studies
An academic area that examines the past and present cultures, characteristics, achievements, issues, and problems of people of African descent all over the world.
Civil Rights Struggle
A movement that began in the 1600s and 1700s when the first Africans got off slave ships and started complaining, later becoming part of the educational curriculum in the 1960s.
Curse on Ham
A popular biblical misconception; the Bible does not record a curse on Ham directly, but rather a curse placed on one of Ham's descendants in the Middle East.
Eye for an Eye and a Tooth for a Tooth
A biblical law concerning how individuals and slaves should be treated, establishing that if harm is done, a person receives standard monetary compensation or equal retaliatory action.
Biblical Slavery
An international system of servitude in which slaves held rights and could potentially rise up to become leaders of the community, differing from the system of slavery in The United States.
