-volume of air that can be evacuated from lungs after tidal expiration
-1000 to 1200 mL

Residual Volume

-volume of air remaining after the most strenuous expiration
-1200 mL (men) 1100 mL (women)

Inspiratory Capacity (IC)

-total volume that can be inspired after tidal expiration = TV + IRV
-2600 to 3700 mL

Functional Residual Capacity

-amount of air remaining in lungs after tidal expiration = ERV + Resid V
-2200 to 2400 mL

Vital Capacity (VC)

-total amount of exchangeable air
-TV + IRV + ERV = 4800 mL (men) 3100 mL (women)

Total Lung Capacity

-sum of all lung volumes
-TV + IRV + ERV + Resid V = 6000 mL (men) 4200 mL (women)
