What is an Amide?
Amides are derivatives of Carboxylic Acids; a carbonyl group bonded to a central carbon, R chain, and OH hydroxyl group.
In amides, instead of a hydroxyl group OH, it is NH2, an amino group.
Classifications of Amides
Amides can be classified in 3 ways; primary, secondary, and tertiary.
They must be attached to the carbonyl group in order for it to count as an amide.
The carbonyl FG counts as 1 carbon.
1° 1 carbon, 2° 2 carbon, 3° 3 carbons
