Pectoral girdle
Consists of a clavicle and scapula, attaching the upper limb to the axial skeleton.
Clavicle
Also known as the collarbone; lies horizontally across the anterior part of the thorax.
Scapula
Also known as the shoulder blade; situated in the superior part of the posterior thorax.
Humerus
The longest and largest bone of the upper limb.
Ulna
The bone located on the medial aspect of the forearm, longer than the radius.
Radius
The smaller bone located on the lateral aspect of the forearm.
Pelvic girdle
Consists of two hip bones that support the vertebral column and pelvic viscera.
Ilium
The superior portion of the hip bone.
Ischium
The inferior, posterior portion of the hip bone.
Pubis
The anterior and inferior part of the hip bone.
False pelvis
The lower portion of the abdomen situated superior to the pelvic brim.
True pelvis
Surrounds the pelvic cavity and houses the rectum, urinary bladder, and reproductive organs.
Femur
The longest, heaviest, and strongest bone in the body.
Patella
Also known as the kneecap; a small triangular bone located anterior to the knee joint.
Tibia
The larger, medial, weight-bearing bone of the leg.
Fibula
The smaller bone parallel to and lateral of the tibia.
Tarsal bones
Seven bones located in the proximal region of the foot.
Metatarsals
Five bones located in the intermediate region of the foot.
Phalanges
Fourteen bones located in the distal part of the foot (toes).
