Visual
The sense of sight.
Auditory
The sense of hearing.
Tactile
The sense of touch.
Olfactory
The sense of smell.
Gustatory
The sense of taste.
Kinesthetic
The sense of position and motion.
Stereognosis
The sense that allows a person to perceive and recognize the size, shape, and texture of an object.
Reception
The first component of normal sensation, involving the stimulation of a sensory receptor.
Perception
The second component of normal sensation, involving the integration and processing of sensory stimuli in the brain.
Reaction
The third component of normal sensation, involving the body's response to a perceived stimulus.
Sensory deficits
A sensory alteration involving a loss or impairment in normal sensory reception or perception.
Sensory deprivation
A sensory alteration resulting from inadequate quality or quantity of sensory stimulation.
Sensory overload
A sensory alteration occurring when a person receives multiple sensory stimuli and cannot selectively filter or ignore them.
