Superior

toward the head end or upper part of the body, above

Inferior

Away from the head end, or toward lower part of body, below

Anterior

Toward or at front of body, in front of

Posterior

Toward or at the the back of the body, behind

Medial

Toward or at the midline of the body, on the inner side of

Lateral

Away from the midline of the body, on the outer side

Intermediate

Between a more medial and lateral structure

Proximal

Closer to the trunk or the point where a limb attaches

Distal

Farther away from the trunk or the point where a limb attaches

Superficial

Toward or at body surface

Deep

Away from body surface, more internal
