Donor Selection
The process of evaluating individuals to determine their suitability for donating blood.
Aseptic Technique
A method to prevent contamination during blood collection by scrubbing the site for at least 30 seconds.
Maximum Blood Collection Volume
No more than 10.5 mL of whole blood per kilogram of body weight, including samples.
Donor Interval
The required waiting period of 8 weeks after whole blood donation before an individual can donate again.
Platelet Function Medications
Medications such as aspirin that affect platelet function and their potential impact on platelet donations.
Eligibility Age for Allogeneic Donor
Minimum age of 16 years, or conforming to state law, with no maximum age limit.
Normal Body Temperature Criterion
Should be less than 37.5°C or 99.5°F for a donor to be considered eligible.
Hemoglobin/Hematocrit Requirements
Minimum hemoglobin of 12.5g/dL and hematocrit of 38% for donor acceptance.
Weight Requirement for Donation
Minimum weight of 110 lbs or 50 kg for a potential blood donor.
Blood Pressure Limits
Systolic/Diastolic blood pressure must be within normal limits, no longer defined as 180/100.
