Cell Membrane
A protective barrier that surrounds the cell, controlling the movement of substances in and out.
Semi-permeable
membrane that allows certain molecules to pass while blocking others.
Duffusion
The movement of molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration until equilibrium is reached.
Osmosis
The diffusion of water molecules through a semi-permeable membrane from an area of lower concentration to an area of higher concentration.
Active Transport
The process of moving molecules across a cell membrane from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration, requiring the use of energy.
Passive Transport
The movement of molecules across a cell membrane without the use of energy, typically from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
Endoplasmic Reticulum
A builds lipids for the cell membrane.
