Cell Membrane

Controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell.

Nuclear Membrane

Controls the movement of substances in and out of the nucleus.

Cell wall

Gives structural support and prevents a plant cell from exploding due to too much water entering the cell.

Vacuole

A temporary storage spot for waste products. In plants, its the largest organelle.

Chloroplast

An organelle found only in plants.  It is the site of photosynthesis.

Cytoplasm

The fluid-like material that holds the organelles

Free Ribosomes

These organelles make protein in the cytoplasm.

Golgi Bodies

Takes big macromolecules and modifies them. Then, it stores, packages and distributes them throughout the cell.

Rough ER

Serves as a transport system in the cell AND makes protein.

Smooth ER

Makes lipids and neutralizes poisons

Nucleus

The brain of the cell

Nucleolus

site of ribosome production

Mitochondria

The powerhouse of the cell.

Centriole

Organizes microtubules and separates chromosomes.

Microtubules

Helps support the shape of the cell.

Lysosome

Breaks down excess organelles.

Peroxisome

Responsible for lipid metabolism and chemical detox
