Plane Mirror Image Properties

Always forms an upright image that is the same size as the object, located at the same distance behind the mirror as the object is in front of it, and is laterally inverted.

Laterally Inverted

The property of a mirror image where the left and right sides are reversed.

Spherical Mirror

A curved mirror with a reflective surface that is shaped like part of a large hollow sphere.

Concave Mirror

A spherical mirror with a reflecting surface that curves inward, like the inside of a bowl, and can form enlarged or inverted images.

Convex Mirror

A spherical mirror with a reflecting surface that curves or bulges outward, like the back of a spoon, and shows smaller, upright images.

Non-Reflecting Surface

The side of a mirror that is often coated with silver paint and represented as shaded in diagrams.

Spherical Mirror Fabrication

Created by grinding and polishing a flat glass plate into a curved shape and adding a reflective coating (like aluminium) to one side.

Used in small sizes by dentists to see enlarged images of teeth.
