Superior
Above or pointing up. Higher up, toward the head. Opposite of inferior.

Inferior
Below or pointing down. Lower down, toward the feet. Opposite of superior.

Anterior (Ventral)
Located toward the front of the body. Opposite of posterior.

Posterior (Dorsal)
Located toward the back of the body. Opposite of anterior.

Medial
Located toward the midline of the body. Opposite of lateral. —→I←—

Lateral
Located away from the midline of the body. Toward the outer sides. Opposite of medial. ←—I—→

Proximal
Closer to the trunk or point of attachment. Opposite of Distal

Distal
Farther down the limb. Furthest from point of attachment; opposite of proximal

Superficial
Near the outermost layer or surface of the skin.. Situated near the surface of the body; opposite of deep

Deep
Farther down, inside the internal core of the body.. Situated further inside the body; opposite of superficial
