Variable
A symbol used to represent unknown numbers.
Strict inequalities
Comparison symbols that always point to the smaller number being compared.
Sum of a and b
The addition of a and b, which yields the same result as the sum of b and a.
Difference of a and b
The subtraction expression a−b, where the first term mentioned comes first in the expression.
Difference of b and a
The subtraction expression b−a.
Juxtaposition
Placing terms right next to each other, such as ab, to denote multiplication.
Product
The word for the result obtained when multiplying.
Quotient of a and b
The division expression a divided by b, where order matters.
Quotient of b and a
The division expression b divided by a.
