What are inferential statistics used for?
Used to statistically test hypotheses
Choice of test depends on DDD (Design, Difference, Data)
Design
Independent (unrelated)
Repeated (related)
Difference
Difference: is there a difference between IQ in males/females. children/adults, singers/pianists, reader/writers etc
Correlation: is there a relationship between IQ and age, number of hours reading a week
Data
Nominal: HOW MANY, categorical, normally counted using a tally, e.g. colours, types of fruit, ethnicity
Ordinal: values with an order or rank (think scales), satisfactions ratings, test scores, agreement level
Interval: normally standard measurements like time
