Florida Department of Health (DOH)
The organization that contracted with Prometric to develop and administer the Florida Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Exam.
Prometric
The entity responsible for scheduling exams, processing applications, and administering the CNA tests at regional and in-facility sites.
Route E1
The certification route for those who have completed a State-approved Nursing Assistant Training Program and have never been a nursing assistant in any other state.
Route E2
The certification route for individuals currently enrolled in a State-approved Nursing Assistant Training Program who have never been a nursing assistant in any other state.
Route E3 (Challenger)
The certification route for applicants with no nursing assistant training or experience who believe they can pass the exam without training.
Route E4 (Other Nursing Training)
The certification route for those with some nursing training or experience who have not completed a state-approved program or need to retest within two years.
Route E5 (Lapsed Nursing Assistant)
The certification route for individuals who were previously certified as nursing assistants in Florida or another state but whose certification has lapsed.
120 hours
The minimum length of the state-approved training program required for candidates who fail any portion of the CNA exam three times.
Registry Process
The procedure where, after passing the required exams and receiving Board approval, a candidate is added to the Florida Registry as a CNA, usually taking three to five weeks.
Written Test
A computer-based examination consisting of 60 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 90 minutes.
Clinical Skills Test
A timed test where candidates perform five assigned skills, with a duration ranging from 31 to 40 minutes depending on the specific tasks.
Indirect Care
Care related to residents’ rights/preferences, communication, resident safety, comfort/needs, and infection control, scored during the clinical exam.
Resident Actor
The role candidates are required to play for other test-takers during the Clinical Skills Test in Florida.
Admission to Test Letter
The notification emailed by Prometric which includes the date, time, and location of the exam, and must be presented at the test center.
ORI number
The Originating Agency Identification number required by Livescan service providers to ensure fingerprint results are sent to the correct board office.
Livescan
An electronic fingerprinting service approved by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for conducting background screenings.
ADA Accommodation
Reasonable testing adjustments provided for candidates with documented disabilities recognized under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
ESL Authorization
An accommodation for candidates whose primary language is not English, which may extend the examination time to 150% of the normal limit.
Delinquent
The status of a CNA certificate that was not renewed before its expiration date; working with this status is prohibited.
2 years
The timeframe within which an applicant must pass both the clinical skills and written exams after passing their first test date.
Slipknot
The type of knot used when securing a restraint so that it can be removed quickly when needed.
Handwashing
An unprompted clinical skill evaluated at the beginning of the test because nursing assistants are expected to perform it before and after physical contact.
Section 456.0635
The Florida Statute that mandates the refusal of a license or certificate for certain felony convictions related to fraud, drug abuse, or social/economic assistance.
Nolo Contendere
A legal plea of 'no contest' which must be disclosed on the CNA application for any charge other than minor traffic offenses.
