Diaphysis and Epiphysis
Diaphysis
is the tubular shaft that runs between the proximal and distal ends of the bone.
Medullary cavity
hollow region in the diaphysis that is filled with yellow bone marrow.
Walls of the diaphysis are composed of?
composed of dense and hard compact bone
Epiphysis
wider section at the end of the bone, filled with spongey bone. Red marrow fills the spaces of the spongey bone.
metaphysis
where Diaphysis and epiphysis meet. The narrow area that contains the epiphyseal plate (growth plate)
Endosteum
where bone growth, repair and remodeling occur.
Periosteum
contains blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatic vessels that nourish the compact bone.
Articular cartilage
a thin layer of cartilage that reduces friction and acts as a shock absorber.
Dipole (Spongy Bone)
In flat bones, works together with compact bone to protect organs from fracture.
