refuse to accept anxiety producing info. ex: get cut, show up to practice anyways
projection
attribute unwanted feelings onto someone else ex: my teacher hates me!
sublimation
diversion of unwanted impulses into something socially acceptable ex: person who likes destruction joins the army
reaction formation
act in a way opposite to how you feel ex: be overly polite to someone you really dont like
compensation
make up for the lack in one area by doing great in another ex: poor grades, but great athlete
procrastination
