what is magnification
magnification is how many times larger an image is than an actual object
what is resolution?
resolution is the ability to distinguish between two separate points
convert 20mm into um
20mm is 20,000um
convert 340nm into um
340nm is 0.34um
what is the equation for magnification
magnification = image/actual size
rearrange the magnification equation to make actual size the subject
actual size = image size/magnification
rearrange the magnification equation to make image size the subject
image size = actual size x magnification
what is an eyepiece graticule?
eyepiece graticule is a small scale placed within the eyepiece
what is a stage micrometer
stage micrometer is a glass slide with a scale measured in um
describe steps to calibrate an eyepiece graticule
1) fix a stage micrometer onto the stage
2) Look through the eyepiece to line up the micrometer and the graticule.
3) Count the number of graticule divisions that fit into one micrometer division.
4) Use the formula below to calculate the size of each graticule division.
graticule division = size of one micrometer division / number of graticule divisions
