“I could not answer her , i coukd not understand her”
Repetition- emohasises the frustration of being unable to communicate with his aunt. He seems confused by her and frustrated that he is unable to speak to his loved one. Its clear they are emotionally very close.

Suggests the persona is in awe if his aunt and enjoys watching her. Connotations if effortlessly and impressive. He is inspired by her and looks up to her as a role model

Metaphor comparing his aunt to the tasks she used to do. Personification- Suggests his memories of the outer hebrides are so closely related to his aunt that she embodies the landscape. She was larger than life and so vivid.

After he had learnt the language it was too late , his aunt had died. Hints at his frustration that he never had the opportunity to truly meet his aunt.

WC has connotations if forced, this suggests she died too early and she was still full if life. Black symbolises death, the theme if seperation is now permanent.

Suggests the persona’s frustration at how he was cheated if the opportunity to get ti know his aunt and build that relationship. Repition- hints to readers to cherish their own loved ones.
