Religious Worldview
Often as simple as identifying with a particular religion, but as complicated as determining belief in supernatural powers, sacred vs. non-sacred items, belief in an after life.
Gender Identity
Persons innate sense of their gender.
Ethnicity
Identified by ancestral backgrounds which may or not be associated with countries.
Nationality
Being a citizen of a particular nation or country.
Social Class
Groups of people determined by money, shared values, education,n levels, ETC.
Ability Status
Ones physical or mental ability to preform tasks.
Sex Orientation
A persons identity in relation to the gender or genders to which they are sexually attracted; the fact of being heterosexual. homosexual, bisexual, etc.
Race
Often defied by biological characteristics yet simplistically reduced to continents or colors.
Cultural Hegemony
Dominance of the culture of the ruling class in a culturally diverse society’ the cultural elements and worldview of the ruling class become the accepted cultural norm.
Prejudice
Preconceived opinions of someone with no reason or experience; prejudgment.
Stereotype
A widely held but fixed and oversimplified idea of a person or thing.
Dehumanization
The act of taking away someones human qualities
Cycles of oppression
If given the chances, the oppressed will often become the oppressor.
Ethnocentrism
Judging other cultures through the lens of your own.
Cultural Relativism
The idea that different cultures are equal and valid.
Immigration
Arriving to a new country (often with the intent to stay).
Emmigration
Leaving a country of origin.
Migration
Moving around from place to place.
Push/Pull factors
Reasons why people leave their country and reasons why people are drawn to a new country.
Push Factor
Hard conditions, not safe, war , famine, lack of oppression/resources, oppressed Gov.
Pull Factor
Better education, better opportunities, explore, jobs, freedom/civil rights/liberties, family.

the policy of protecting the interests of native-born or established inhabitants against those of immigrants.
Intersectionality
A sociological frame work that explore how social identities overlap and create unique experiences of discrimination and privilege.
Caricature
A drawing that makes someone look funny or foolish because some part of the persons appearance is exaggerated.
Slur
A derogatory or insulting term applied to a particular group of people (I.e. racial slur, ethnic slur).
Cultural Representation
How cultures, identities, and experiences are portrayed in media and society.
cultural assimilation
When a cultural group adapts the values, behaviors, and beliefs of another group (often dominant culture).
Cultural appropriation
When members of a majority group adapt cultural elements of a minority group in an exploitative, disrespectful, or stereotypical way.

Philosophy
The study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality and existence, especially as an academic discipline.
Difference between religion and philosophy
They both attempt to answer the big question in life, religions accomplish this with deity, philosophies don’t.
Deism (Deist)
the belief in the existence of God, but not necessarily a religion associated with it.
Atheism
The belief that there is no higher power or God.
Agnosticism
The idea that there may or may not be a higher power or God.
Civil Liberties
Protects you from the government. (Bill of rights)
Civil Right
Right that protects you from other people. (Found in constitution)
