bipolar disorders

group of disorders in which a person alternates between the hopelessness of depression and the overexcitement of mania

depressive disorders

group of disorders characterized by persistent sadness or irritable mood, along with physical and cognitive changes that affect a person’s ability to function

bipolar II disorder

less severe form of bipolar disorder in which people move between depression and a milder form of mania called hypomania

persistent depressive disorder

disorder in which a person experiences a depressed mood on more days than not for at least two years

major depressive disorder

disorder in which a person experiences five or more symptoms of depression, one of which must be either depressed mood or loss of interest in things that are usually pleasurable, lasting two or more weeks

mania

hyperactive and optimistic state in which poor judgement is common

bipolar I disorder

more severe form of bipolar disorder that causes euphoria and high levels of energy that last a week or longer

rumination

excessive worrying about and overthinking of a problem
