Ocular
Magnifies the image. Typically magnification of 10x.
Pointer
Located in one of the oculars and is used to point to structures and features found in the image. Typically found on the right ocular.
Base
Support and stabilize the microscope.
Arm
Connects the base to the head/body.
Head/Body
Holds the ocular lenses and rotating nosepiece.
Rotating Nosepiece
Holds the objective lenses.
Objective Lens
Magnify the image. Only one can be used at a time.
Scanning Lens
4x Magnification
Low Power Lens
10x Magnification
High Power Lens
40x Magnification
Stage
Holds the slide and has a hole to allow light to pass through the slide.
Stage Clip
Secures the slide to the mechanical stage.
Mechanical Stage
Safely moves the slide around the stage.
Mechanical Stage Knobs
Moves the mechanical stage.
Fine Adjustment Knob
Focuses the image by changing the distance between the slide and the objective. You may use this with all lenses.
Coarse Adjustment Knob
Focuses the image by changing the distance between the slide and the objective. You may only use this with the scanning lens.
Iris Diaphragm
You can regulate the contrast and resolution of the image by opening or closing this.
Condenser
Concentrates the light that comes from the light source.
Light Source
Provides light.
Rheostat
Regulates the light intensity of the light source.
Power Switch
Turns the microscope off and on.
Power Cord
Provides electrical power to the microscope.
