The group or organization that makes decisions on behalf of the people in a political unit, such as a country, state, or city

Example: The government says kids must go to school.

Democracy

A goverment in which the people hold power

Example: The U.S. is ran by a democracy, people have freedoms, which means they get to participate in decision making through elections

Direct democracy

A government in which citizens vote directly on the issues that affect them

If people have to vote in California, and they from Louisiana, it would be less vote because people are not willing to drive that far.
