Fetal Period
The period from the 9th week to birth, characterized by maturation of tissues and organs and rapid growth of the body.

Length of Pregnancy (LNMP)
280 days or 40 weeks after last normal menstrual period (LNMP)
Length of Pregnancy (Fertilization)
266 days or 38 weeks after fertilization
Lanugo Hairs
Fetal hair occurring during the 4th month of development.
Quickening
A fetal movement milestone that occurs in the 5th month.
Vernix Caseosa
Whitish, fatty substance from seb glands.
IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction)
Fetus who does not achieve the expected in utero growth potential due to genetic or environmental factors, defined as an estimated fetal weight <10th percentile.
Moderate FGR
Defined as BW in the 3rd to 10th percentile.
Severe FGR
Defined as less than the 3rd percentile.
SGA (Small for Gestational Age)
Defined as infants with a BW below the 10th percentile for gestational age.
Placenta
Organ that facilitates nutrient and gas exchange between maternal and fetal compartments.
Fetal Component of Placenta
Derived from the trophoblast and extraembryonic mesoderm, formed by Choriom Frondosum.
Maternal Component of Placenta
Derived from the uterine endometrium, formed by Decidua Basalis.
