Right talus neck fracture
The main medical diagnosis characterized by a fracture through the neck of the talus bone, carrying a primary clinical risk of avascular necrosis (AVN) due to compromised blood supply.
Lisfranc injury
Disruption of the Lisfranc ligament and joint complex in the midfoot, causing joint instability, loss of normal anatomical alignment, pain, swelling, and impaired weight-bearing.
Avascular necrosis (AVN)
A major complication of a talar neck fracture occurring when disruption of the talar blood supply leads to tissue death of the bone.
Compartment syndrome
A condition caused by increased pressure within a closed fascial compartment, which impairs venous outflow and capillary perfusion, leading to tissue ischaemia and nerve/muscle injury.
Tramal / tramadol
An opioid analgesic with central action (including opioid receptor activity and monoamine reuptake effects) indicated for moderate-to-severe acute traumatic or post-operative pain.
Maxalon / metoclopramide
An antiemetic and dopamine antagonist that works via dopamine receptor antagonism, indicated for the treatment of nausea and vomiting.
Panado / paracetamol
A non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic indicated for mild-to-moderate pain and fever, carrying a risk of hepatotoxicity with excessive dosing.
Clexane / enoxaparin
An anticoagulant medication prescribed for DVT/VTE prevention in patients with major lower-limb trauma, orthopaedic surgery, and reduced mobility or non-weight-bearing status.
Full neurovascular assessment sequence
The systematic clinical assessment memory sequence: LOOK → FEEL → CAP REFILL → PULSE → SENSATION → MOVEMENT → PAIN → OEDEMA → COMPARE.
Disproportionate pain
A primary red flag sign of compartment syndrome, characteristically severe and exacerbated by passive stretch of the affected muscle group.
Morse Fall Risk Assessment
A time-specific clinical risk assessment tool used to evaluate a patient's fall risk, which is elevated by restricted mobility and non-weight-bearing (NWB) status.
Waterlow Assessment
A pressure-injury risk assessment tool that evaluates factors such as restricted mobility, smoking history, and orthopaedic surgery.
Risk for peripheral neurovascular dysfunction
A priority nursing diagnosis related to traumatic lower-limb injury, post-operative swelling, and immobilisation, requiring regular neurovascular monitoring.
Acute pain (Nursing Diagnosis)
A nursing diagnosis related to musculoskeletal tissue injury and surgical intervention, evidenced by documented right-foot pain and tenderness, with a goal of pain reduction to a tolerable level (ideally ≤3/10).
Non-weight-bearing (NWB) restriction
A post-operative restriction applied following operative fracture fixation to prevent disruption of bone alignment and internal hardware, allowing proper tissue healing.
