Chemical Reaction
A process where substances change into new substances with different properties.
Evidence of Chemical Reactions
Indicators such as color changes, formation of a solid, emission of gas, and light emission that suggest a chemical reaction has occurred.
Precipitation Reaction
A reaction that forms a solid (precipitate) when two aqueous solutions are mixed.
Net Ionic Equation
An equation that shows only the species that actually participate in a chemical reaction, omitting spectator ions.
Aqueous Solution
A homogeneous mixture where a substance is dissolved in water.
Diatomic Elements
Gases that exist in pairs (H2, O2, N2, etc.) as a natural state.
Balancing Chemical Equations
The process of ensuring that the number of atoms for each element is the same on both sides of a chemical equation.
Oxidation-Reduction (Redox) Reactions
Reactions that involve the transfer of electrons, where one substance is oxidized and another is reduced.
Acid-Base Reaction
A reaction that typically produces water and a salt when an acid reacts with a base.
Gas Evolution Reaction
A type of reaction that produces gas as one of the products.
