Cancer

Disorder in which some of the body's cells lose the ability to control growth.

Cell Cycle

Series of events in which a cell grows, prepares for division, and divides to form two daughter cells.

Chromatid

One of two identical "sister" parts of a duplicated chromosome.

Chromatin

The dispersed form of eukaryotic chromosomes made of DNA and histones (proteins) found in non-dividing cells.

Chromosome

Threadlike structure of DNA and protein that contains genetic information.

Cytokinesis

Division of the cytoplasm to form two separate daughter cells.

Differentiation

Process by which cells become specialized in structure and function.

Mitosis

Part of eukaryotic cell division during which the cell nucleus divides.

Spindles

A fanlike system of microtubules that will help to separate the duplicated chromosomes.
