Artist
A person who creates art.
Contemporary Art
The most recent part of the modern, often made with non-traditional materials and meaning "of our time."
Music
Art form that appeals to the sense of hearing.
Literature
Art form of language through combined words, creating meaning and experience.
Theater
Performance-based art involving a dramatic text performed on stage by actors; a combination of dance and music.
Film
Technological translation of theater where special effects are used to enhance storytelling.
Dance
Uses the body, mobilized and choreographed in a specific time form and space.
Architecture
Structure meant to be used as a shelter.
Visual Arts
Art forms such as painting, photography, and sculpture that are pleasing to the eyes.
Mimesis
Refers to how art and literature reflect, interpret, and recreate the real world and human experiences instead of being an exact duplicate.
Relationship-building
Subject matter in which art builds relationships with people and social capital.
Aesthetic Value
The capacity of art to elicit a sense of pleasure in the viewer.
Civil Art
Art form used by engineers including city or town planning, maintenance, and beautification.
Commercial Art
Art that promotes advertising, marketing, branding, and product promotion.
Graphic Arts
Two-dimensional visual art forms on flat surfaces that deal with line, typography, layout, and image creation.
Agricultural Arts
Form of art promoting efficient, sustainable, and aesthetically designed agricultural practices and products.
Business Art
Art related to merchandising, accounting, and salesmanship.
Fishery Art
Art promoting the development, management, and marketing of fishery products and resources.

Minor Art
Utilitarian or practical art forms made to be used, such as shell craft or bamboo craft.
Medium
Materials used by the artists.
Technique
The way artists use and manipulate materials to achieve his/her desired formal effect.
Abstract Expressionism
A style of abstraction with no definite size, shape, and structure.
Kinetic Arts
Art forms focused on movement or motion.
Optical Arts
Art that shows optical illusions.
Performance Art
The use of a variety of media and the human body to execute an artistic, theatrical expression.
Environmental Art
The creation of space, such as a landscape, using materials from the environment like stones, tree branches, and flowers.
Feminist Art
Art that tackles issues of identity, sexuality, gender roles, and equality.
Minimalism
Art with a pre-fabricated look, free of details, and often with a flat surface.
Video Art
Art consisting of images recorded through video and viewed through a TV or screen.
Graffiti Art
Art done hastily on a wall and other surfaces.
Postmodern Art
Art where the idea is often expressed through a mix of materials, such as found objects welded together.
Body Art
Art forms involving tattoos and piercings that can be painted or clothed.
Digital Art
The use of a computer as an aid in creating various images or designs.
