Psychodynamic
a form of talk therapy focused on unconscious thoughts, feelings, and memories and their effect on current behaviors
Repression
when a person unconsciously forgets a memory
Suppression
when a person consciously avoids a situation
Unconscious mind
drives, urges, and instincts that we are not aware of (first level of mental life)
Conscious mind
to be keenly aware of something (second level of mental life)
Preconscious mind
forgotten content that can be retrieved and brought to awareness (third level of mental life)

genital area becomes the leading erogenous zone leading to the male/female oedipus complex (third stage of development)
Male oedipus complex
having the desire of wanting to do away with the father and sexually desiring the mother
Female oedipus complex
having hostility toward males genitals and wanting to do away with the mother and sexually desiring the father
Latency
going through a dormant of psychosexual development produced by the parents attempts at punishing or discouraging sexual activity
