  • goes to zoo ops, animal/enviro health, plant/engi, LSS, security supervisors

• announce: who you are, where, code, who is present

Codes

75- animal breach of containment

76- significant animal injury or crisis

77- person injured by animal

78- unauthorized person in animal space

79- structural damage to animal habitat

• category B response

• initiate zoo ops alert code #

B5.1 (1) manual collection

• bring animal under behavior control and walk back

• birds may be picked up/put in small kennel or net

• otters can be secured with hoop nets → kennel

• seals/sea lions → herded into kennel/cage w/herding panels

• dolphins, elasmobranchs/ratfsh → stretcher and carried to pool side for medical eval

B5.1(2) chemical immobilization

• if beh/manual attempts fail

  • species that may require: asian small clawed, sea lions, sea otters

• vet or zoo ops only

B5.2 missing animal

• thorough examination

• report to zoo ops immediately

• VP zoo ops and VP animal/enviro health respond

  • species missing? area involved? potential risk to people?

B6- unauthorized person in enclosure

• belligerent person: clear intent to harm animals/disrupt aquarium ops

  • B response- code 78 (77+78 if person injured and 76+78 if animal injured)

  • zoo ops and security respond

• confused person: mistakenly entered due to failed enclosure security

  • C response- witness should assist by escorting them to guest areas

B9.10 response to ingestion

• if object not recovered → zoo ops management → animal and enviro health

• emergency event report protocol

B10- animal emergencies

• 2 categories: serious health related issue & serious injury to staff or guest in the presence of animal

• animal health emergency

  • C or B category

  • contact zoo ops → zoo ops → animal health → animal health

• human emergency w/ animal

  • C or B category

  • if staff → follow safety/emergency response SOP for dept

  • if not → zoo ops, more ppl needed → code 77
