Energy is the ability to do what? What do we use to do work?
WORK, ENERGY
The unit of Energy is in
JOULES
1= BTU or (British thermal Unit) is equa to how much energy?
1 BTU= 1000 J
The conservation law of energy states that
energy can be transfered between different forms, not created or destroyed.
5 main forms of energy?
Mechanical, Heat, Chemical, Electromagnetic, Nuclear
Mechanical Energy is associated with what?
MOTION, if its moving, than it has mechanical energy.
Heat energy is caused by what?
The Internal motion of atoms
How does Heat energy increase..?
The faster the particles move, the greater amount of heat energy is given off.
How can mechnaical energy be converted into heat energy
Movement that causes internal particles to move, (rubbing your hands)
Chemical Energy
Eneergy related to the breaking and reforming of bonds from chemicals
Electromagnetic energy
Associated with moving charges..
Nuclear Energy
Assoicated with energy from the nucleus or atom
Describe specifically what happens in Nuclear Energy
When the nucleus splits or is joined together, energy is released in the form of light and heat energy (atomic)
Nuclear energy can be from what?
FUSSION or FISSON
FISSION does what?
Split the atom.
Fusion does what?
Combines two atoms.
What is Mechanical Energy
Energy due to an object’s positional (PE) or motion (kinetic)
Describe the chart that divides energy
Potential and Kinetic, Potential splits into three different subsections: Gravitational potential energy, Elastic Potential Energy, Chemical Potential Energy
What is Potential Energy?
Energy that is stored, waiting to be converted into
