provide energy (longer term stores of energy), keep us warm by insulating us, and protect our organs
role of proteins
we need them to grow, and to repair damaged tissue. can be used for energy but only when we don’t have enough carbohydrates or lipids
difference between vitamins and minerals
vitamins are organic molecules, minerals are inorganic

prevents us from getting scurvy (vitamin C deficiency - joint/muscle/leg pain, swollen bleeding gums, red/blue spots on skin [usually legs or feet])

role of fibre
helps food move through our intestines properly, stops us from getting diarrhoea or constipation
role of water
we need it for chemical reactions in the body and most of our body is made of water. continuously losing water by breathing, sweating, or urinating - needs constant replacement
