Force
A push or pull exerted on an object.
Contact Force
A force that occurs when two objects are touching.
Noncontact Force
A force that can exert on an object without touching
Three Noncontact Forces
Magnetism, Electric force, and gravity.
Mass
The amount of matter in an object.
Weight
The effect of gravity on an object's mass.
Gravitational Force
The force that attracts two objects, affected by their mass and the distance between them.
Friction
A force that resists the movement of sliding forces.
Three Kinds of Friction
Static, sliding, and fluid friction.
Static friction
Prevents surfaces from sliding past each other
Sliding friction
OPPOSES the motion of surfaces sliding past each other
Fluid friction
Friction between a surface and fluid-any material, such as water or air, that flows
