Faith
A grace or gift from God make it possible to gain some understanding of all that he has revealed to us, including the totality of his plan as well as the many mysteries of faith.
Necessary for salvation.
A PERSONAL ADHERENCE . . . to God.
A personal faith says, “I believe in God.” This is an act of belief in the one, true, and living God. It is as though we gather all that we are, and gratefully give our hearts and minds to God.
Faith is born of an ENCOUNTER WITH THE LIVING GOD who calls us and reveals his love.
COMMUNAL. It is not just a private act. In the assembly of believers at Mass.
Believes with conviction in a message. We have seen that faith is a relationship with God.

Proposed a SERIES OF STAGES OF FAITH DEVELOPMENT across the life span of a believer.
Synthetic-Conventional Faith
The believer conforms to religious authority- they see themselves as believing what ‘everybody else’ believes.
Individual-Reflective Faith
The faithful takes responsibility for their beliefs and feelings.
Conjunctive Faith
The believer is willing to engage in dialogue with those of other faiths.
Magisterium
The official teaching authority of the Church, constituted by the Pope and the bishops in union with him.
Sacred Scripture
Is the Word of God, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, contained in the collection of sacred books.
Sacred Tradition
From the Latin tradition, meaning "to hand on" is the Word of God as received from Christ himself through the Apostles.
Apostolic Tradition
The transmission of the message of Christ, brought about from the very beginnings of Christianity by means of preaching, bearing witness, institutions, worship, and inspired writings.
Virgin Mary
She is revered not just as the mother of Christ but also as a central figure in the Catholic faith due to her unique role in salvation history and her exemplary faith.
Mariology
Theological study of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mariologists study the life of Mary in scripture and the development of doctrine pertaining to her life and mission.
St. Thomas Aquinas
Summa Theologica, the type of honor is properly owed to whom. In the terms “Latria”,“Dulia”,and “HYPERDULIA.”
Latria
The highest form of honor and worship and is due to God alone.
Dulia
This is a form of respect and honor directed towards saints, who are considered holy people and role models of Christian virtue.
Hyperdulia
St. Thomas identifies a third term reserved for the Blessed Mother alone because, while she is greater than any other created being, she is still subordinate to God.
Dogma
A truth that has been infallibly defined by the Church’s Magisterium to be divinely revealed. It is a truth that must be believed with divine and catholic faith.
Divine Motherhood
She is called "Mother of God" which translates the more accurately stated [in the] Greek term “THEOTOKOS" or "Birth-giver of God."
Mary's divine motherhood was proclaimed at the Council of Ephesus in 431.
Perpetual Virginity
Mary conceived "without any detriment to her virginity, which remained inviolate even after his birth."
Immaculate Conception
The dogma of the Immaculate Conception states "that the most Blessed Virgin Mary, from the first moment of her conception.
This was proclaimed by Pope Pius XII on November 1, 1950 on his Encyclical “Munificentissimus Deus”
Feast Days
Celebrations such as the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and other Marian.
Celebrations are highly sought-out.
Devotional Practices
The Holy Rosary, Hail Mary, Angelus and other Marian Prayers are frequently recited in personal or communal prayers.
Marian Shrines
Churches, Shrines, and Basilicas are under the patronage of the Various Titles of Our Lady.
Matthew
Symbolized by an Angel / Divine Man) because the Gospel highlights Jesus’ entry into this world, first by presenting His family lineage.
Mark
(Symbolized by a Lion) “The voice in the desert crying” reminds one of a lion’s roar, and the prophetical spirit descending to earth reminds one of a “winged message.”
The lion also signified royalty, an appropriate symbol for the Son of God.
Luke
(Symbolized by an Ox) Oxen were used in temple sacrifices.
For instance, when the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem, parallel to this in as St. Luke introduces the Gospel by Zechariah offering at the Temple
John
(Symbolized by an Eagle) The Gospel begins with the “lofty” prologue and “rises” to pierce most deeply the mysteries of God, the relationship between the Father and the Son.
Paschal Mystery
A core doctrine of the Church, one of the essential beliefs of all Christians. As cited in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Comes from an ancient Aramaic word, pasha (Hebrew, pesach) meaning ‘Passover’.
It refers to the fact that Jews believe God ‘passed over’ the houses of the Jews when the slaying of the firstborn occurred in Egypt.

Hesus Nazareno (Quiapo)
Pictures the sacrificing Jesus that consoles numbers of Filipinos dealing with poverty and hardships.
Sacred Heart
Whose meek and mild countenance invites like attitude.
Jesus of History
Jesus of Nazareth was a genuine historical figure.
A Palestinian Jew of two thousand years ago whose life and message profoundly influenced the people of his day. Christians believed that Jesus is divine as he is one with God from the beginning of time.
We use the term “Jesus of History” referring to the Divine Son of God as he walked the earth in the person of Jesus.
Christ of Faith
This recognizes the tremendous Christian conviction that the Jesus of History was raised from the dead by God and that he truly was and is forever Lord and Savior.
We refer to Jesus as the continuing and powerful presence that makes a difference in people's lives.
