Server
A hardware component or software application that grants other computers connected to a single network access to data, software, services, or storage.
Clients
Computers connected to a single network that rely on a server to access shared resources and relieve some of their workload.
File Server
A computer responsible for storing and managing data files so that other computers on the same network can share information without physically transferring files.
Web Server
A server that stores and delivers files to web browsers to make a website accessible, while processing files for emails and storage using SMTP and FTP.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol; used by web servers to process files for emails.
FTP
File Transfer Protocol; used by web servers to process files for data storage and transfers.
Server Operating System
A durable, specialized operating system built to accommodate multiple users simultaneously, such as Windows Server Essentials, Linux Ubuntu Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or CentOS.
Domain Controller
A server configured to authenticate user credentials and connect all network machines into a single centralized environment.
Server Room Environment
A windowless room equipped with continuous cooling systems, backup power, and physical access to the front, back, and sides of the server hardware.
Lateral Infiltration
A security vector where internal network servers without direct Internet connections (such as database servers) are compromised through internal network access.
SaaS App Hosting
A server implementation used to run business applications like customer relationship management, invoice management, employee management, or collaboration software.
