Linear Regression

Linear Regression

The method of predicting the value of one variable when the value of the other variable is known.

Dependent variable

The variable whose value is to be predicted using an algebraic equation; also called the explained, predicted, or regressed variable.

Independent variable

The variable whose value is used as a basis for prediction; also called the explanatory, predictor, or regressor.

Regression Equations

The linear equation between two variables.

Regression equation of $Y$ on $X$

One of the two types of regression equations describing the linear relationship between variables.

Regression equation of $X$ on $Y$

One of the two types of regression equations describing the linear relationship between variables.
