Polynomial
Any expression containing a letter raised to a power.
Factoring
The process of breaking down an expression into simpler multiplicative components.
Difference of Squares
A difference of two squares is of the form a² - b², which can be factored into (a + b)(a - b).
Roots
The values of x that make the equation equal to zero.
Quadratic Formula
The formula used to find the roots of a quadratic equation given by ax² + bx + c = 0. X = (-b ± √(b² - 4ac)) / (2a)
Completing the Square
A method of solving quadratic equations by transforming it into a perfect square trinomial.
Sum and Product
Refers to the addition (sum) and multiplication (product) of the roots of a quadratic equation.
Coefficient
A numerical or constant quantity placed before and multiplying the variable in an algebraic expression.
Discriminant
The expression b² - 4ac in the quadratic formula which determines the nature of the roots.
Binomial
A polynomial that contains exactly two terms.
