what are the stages of mitosis?
prophase: nucleus dissolves, genetic material is duplicated
metaphase: 2 sets of chromosomes move to opposite sides of the cell
anaphase: organelles are duplicated
telophase: cell divides to produce 2 genetically identical daughter cells
what is diffusion
net movement of particles from an area of HIGH concentration to LOW concentration (passive process: no energy required)
what is osmosis?
the net movement of water particles through a semi-permeable membrane from an area of HIGH concentration to LOW concentration (passive process: no energy required)
what is active transport
the net movement of particles from an area of LOW concentration to HIGH concentration or against the concentration gradient (not a passive process bc it requires energy)
what are the sizes of cells?
1cm=1×10^-2
1mm=1×10^-3
1micrometer=1×10^-6
1nanometer=1×10^-9
