When antibodies and lymphocytes are produced

What is passive immunity?

When antibodies are preformed/given from an external source rather than being produced

How is natural active immunity attained?

When an infection occurs

How is natural passive immunity attained?

1. Antibodies pass from mother --> fetus via placenta

2. Antibodies also pass from mother --> fetus via breastfeeding

How is artificial active immunity attained?

Vaccination: when weakened or dead microbes are introduced

How is artificial passive immunity attained?

Preformed antibodies in an immune serum are introduced

(e.g. anti-venom)

What is the defining feature of artificial immunity?

Both involve injection through needle
