What is the purpose of storage and archiving in XProtect?
To configure where video recordings are stored and how they are archived.
What should be done before configuring storage?
Design the system and calculate the required bandwidth and storage.
What is pre-buffering?
It temporarily stores video before recording starts so footage from before an event is saved.
Which type of pre-buffering does Milestone recommend?
Memory-based pre-buffering because it improves performance and reduces disk wear.
What happens after the retention time of the live database expires?
Recordings are moved to the archive.
What is grooming?
Reducing video quality (such as lowering FPS) to save storage space in long-term archives.
What happens when the final archive retention time expires?
The recordings are automatically deleted.
How can recordings be protected from deletion?
Use Evidence Lock or export the video.
Where should the live recording database be stored?
On Direct Attached Storage (DAS) connected directly to the Recording Server.
What storage is recommended for archives in larger systems?
Network Attached Storage (NAS) because it can be shared by multiple Recording Servers.
Before installing a Recording Server, what should video storage drives be formatted to?
64 KB allocation unit size.
What tool helps calculate storage and bandwidth requirements?
XProtect Server Calculator.
Where should the Live Database be stored?
On a dedicated drive, not the same drive as the Windows operating system.
How is storage configured in a multi-server XProtect system?
Each Recording Server is configured individually.
What path should be used for Network Attached Storage (NAS)?
A UNC path (\Server\Share), not a mapped drive.
Why should archive schedules be staggered in multi-server systems?
To avoid storage bottlenecks by preventing multiple Recording Servers from archiving at the same time.
What does grooming do in an archive?
Reduces video frame rate (such as 1 FPS) to save storage space.
Which XProtect editions support video grooming?
XProtect Corporate and XProtect Expert.
