1. They slow down the Central Nervous System (CNS)

Your CNS (brain and spinal cord) is like the body's control center.

  • More sleepiness

2. They copy the action of GABA

GABA is the brain's natural "brake pedal."

Normally:

  • Glutamate = pedal gas 🚗

The brain tries to catch up on missed REM sleep.

This is called REM rebound .
