Sedatives = medicines that calm you down and relax you , making you less active and less anxious.
Think: "sedative = relax"
Hypnotics = medicines that help you fall asleep and stay asleep .

1. They slow down the Central Nervous System (CNS)

2. They copy the action of GABA
GABA is the brain's natural "brake pedal."
Normally:
