AGAINST: People who were followers of Christ were still identifying as jews who had witnessed the coming of the Messiah, not Christians

Delay of Parousia

AGAINST Parousia “Second coming of Christ.” early Christians became weary when the second coming wasn’t sooner. Christians did not see the need to develop Christianity quickly because of the second coming

Roman Persecution

AGAINST Roman emperors martyred christians for their refusal to worship the Roman Gods

Divisions of Faith and leadership

AGAINST Division between individuals and false prophets could have affected the integrity of the catholic church.

Favorable social conditions

NOT AGAINST There was peace in Rome at the time and this favored Christianity. There was no war occuring at the time and traveling was safe

The conversion of the Gentiles:

NOT AGAINST some gentiles felt Christianity was foolish but a large number converted because they were in such great numbers, if the gentiles had not converted, Christianity may have died.

Predominant unity of faith and leadership

NOT AGAINST we see the emergence of the offices of bishop, priests, and deacons, creating organizations.

courage under persecution

NOT AGAINST people who were not christians saw the joy of them as they approached death when they were executed

Christian Charity and moral uprightness

NOT AGAINST Christian chairty expressed itself in many ways. Christians showed forth tremendous charity, they stood out in their car for each other

NOT AGAINST the holy spirit becomes christian’s source of love, unity, courage, and boldness
