Homeostasis
The maintenance of a relatively stable internal environment regardless of external changes.
Health
A state of physical, mental, and social well-being.
Disease
A deviation from the normal state of homeostasis.
Health Indicators
Normal values that occur within a range and can vary based on factors like age, gender, genetics, and environment.
Pathophysiology
The study of functional changes in the body as a result of disease.
Etiology
The causative factors in a particular disease.
Idiopathic
A disease with an unknown cause.
Iatrogenic
A disease caused by medical treatment or procedures.
Pathogenesis
The development of a disease.
Prodromal period
The early development of a disease where signs are nonspecific or absent.
Remission
A period during which manifestations of a disease subside.
Exacerbation
A worsening of the severity of a disease.
Morbidity
Disease rates within a group.
Mortality
The relative number of deaths resulting from a disease.
Cellular Adaptations
Changes in cell size or number in response to stressors, including atrophy, hypertrophy, and hyperplasia.
Apoptosis
Programmed cell death that occurs normally in the body.
Ischemia
A deficit of oxygen in the cells.
Necrosis
Dying cells that cause further cell damage due to cellular disintegration.
Gangrene
Necrotic tissue that has been invaded by bacteria.
