Whats a vacuole
Sometimes cells form membrane sacs which are larger than a vesicle, and can be longer lived.
What happens during phagocytosis
Pathogens are engulfed by a white blood cell, in this case the pathogen is contained in a phagocytic vacuole
Lysosomes then fuse with the phagocytic vacuole, and lysosomal enzymes destroy the pathogen

What other roles do vacuole play in animals
The removal of waste materials,
Animal cell vacuoles are temporary, whereas plant cell vacuoles are permanent.
What is plant cell vacuole surrounded by
By a membrane called tonoplast, the tonoplast plays a role in controlling which chemicals enter and leave the vacuole.
The fluid in the vacuole is called the cell sap
What does cell sap contain
Contains dissolved sugars, mineral salts and amino acids
Can also contain waste chemical produced by the plant cell.
What does the cell sap contain, and what does it do
Contains dissolved chemicals including mineral salts, because of this, the cell sap has a low water potential.
This means water moves into the plant cell by osmosis, and this water enters the vacuole and creates a hydrostatic pressure acting outwards, causing the cytoplasm to press against the cellulose cell wall.
They say plant cell is turgid and this turgidity of plant cells helps to support the plant
